This position begins the 2020-2021 school year.

TITLE: CTE Automotive Technology Teacher, Certified, 1.0 FTE, Siuslaw High School

PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Automotive Technology Teacher is the primary instructional delivery person in the classroom. Student achievement and growth are primarily dependent on the work and efforts of the classroom teacher. The position is demanding, varied and complex. The teacher must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be well trained in content knowledge and teaching strategies.

RESPONSIBLE TO: Building Principal.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Oregon Teaching Certificate valid for assignment.
• Appropriate endorsement level and subject matter.
• Familiarity and relatable work experience in the Automotive Field.
• Previous teaching experience preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Maintain appropriate licenses and training hours as required.
• Comply with applicable District, state, local and federal laws, rules and regulations.
• Adheres to all standards established by Teachers Standards and Practices Commissions for Competent and Ethical Educator.
• Comply with OAR 584-020-0010 through OAR 584-020-0035 and OAR 584-036-0011.
• Provide supportive and effective classroom management for students.
• Provide a safe and orderly environment for students.
• Plan effective and appropriate daily lessons and unit plans incorporating industry and CTE standards as well as SHS school wide initiatives (i.e. reading and writing across the curriculum).
• Develop, implement and maintain a system to track and maintain tools and equipment (loss prevention and continued maintenance).
• Maintain a budget with a positive balance and maintain and turn in all associated records in a timely manner.
• Maintain compliance with CTE program requirements and documentation.
• Attend all required meetings.
• Collaborate with other CTE instructors.
• Attend regional, state and national student competitions.
• Be a reflective practitioner committed to continuous improvement.
• Assesses, keeps track of, and provides feedback promptly and often to students on their progress and assignments.
• Updates gradebook regularly and keeps website up to date.
• Uses a grading system that is consistent, fair, and supportable.
• Selects and requisitions the required supplies and equipment through the proper school and department channels.
• Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities as assigned.
• Participates cooperatively on school, area, and District-wide activities, including development of planned course statements, tests, and textbook adoptions. Responds in a cooperative and positive manner to supervision.
• Maintains open lines of communication with parents, classified staff, licensed staff, and support personnel to establish a positive work environment.
• Assumes responsibility for assigned duties, i.e., hallway supervision, lunch count, bus duty, etc.
• Attends and participates in faculty meetings and all relevant meetings.
• Maintains strict confidentiality of all student data and information.
• Achieves professional growth through consultation with District support staff and attendance at building and District in-service meetings.
• Follows specified standards, policies, and procedures of the department, the building, and District.
• Diagnose problems and repair brake systems, electrical systems, engine performance, engine repair, suspension and steering, automatic and manual transmissions and drive trains, and heating and air condition systems.
• Examine vehicles to determine extent of damage or malfunctions. Test drive vehicles, and test components and systems, using equipment such as infrared engine analyzers, compression gauges, and computerized diagnostic devices.
• Repair, reline, replace, and adjust brakes. Follow checklists to ensure all important parts are examined, including belts, hoses, steering systems, spark plugs, brake and fuel systems, wheel bearings, and other potentially troublesome areas.
• Plan work procedures, using charts, technical manuals, and experience.
• Test and adjust repaired systems to meet manufacturers’ performance specifications.
• Confer with program customers to obtain descriptions of vehicle problems, and to discuss work to be performed and future repair requirements.
• Perform routine and scheduled maintenance services such as oil changes, lubrications, and tune-ups. Disassemble units and inspect parts for wear, using micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
• Overhaul or replace carburetors, blowers, generators, distributors, starters, and pumps.
• Repair and service air conditioning, heating, engine-cooling, and electrical systems. Repair or replace parts such as pistons, rods, gears, valves, and bearings. Tear down, repair, and rebuild faulty assemblies such as power systems, steering systems, and linkages.
• Rewire ignition systems, lights, and instrument panels. Install and repair accessories such as radios, heaters, mirrors, and windshield wipers. Repair manual and automatic transmissions. Repair or replace shock absorbers. Align vehicles’ front ends.
• Repair damaged automobile bodies.
• Replace and adjust headlights.
• Other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; sit; use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms using a keyboard and video display terminal. The employee is frequently required to stand and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and climb stairs. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School

• The Siuslaw School District allows a maximum of 10 years of outside experience on the salary schedule.
