The Music Teacher first and foremost supports the mission of Ave Maria Academy to form young minds, hearts and souls to love Jesus Christ and develop a character that allows for true Christian leadership. This position is responsible for teaching music education to students in grades Pre-K to 4th and assists the school in the appreciation of music instruction. The Music Teacher helps students grow in their enjoyment, appreciation and performance of music through a variety of planned music experiences. Music instruction focuses primarily on development of singing but includes moving to music, playing instruments and developing listening skills. The Music Teacher works closely with the 5th-8th grade Music Teacher to prepare, coordinate and execute three musical performances each year.
Job Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in education or academic discipline. • Valid teaching license preferred • Minimum 3 years of teaching experience preferred • Be an active, practicing Catholic committed to joyfully witnessing the faith to students • Ability to appreciate and communicate a passion for Catholic education • Model a consistent daily walk with Jesus Christ and be a Christian role model in speech, actions and attitudes which contribute to the spiritual atmosphere of the school • Enthusiasm and passion for teaching and the ability to convey this to students • Skill in motivating and engaging students in the learning process • Have experience in classroom management and be able to positively motivate students • Be a joy-filled and creative teacher capable of building an engaging and inspiring learning environment • Proficient in the use of computer technology including Microsoft Office, e-mail and internet. • Skill in organizing and relating information in an understandable format • Works well independently and with a team • Ability to take initiative, but also take direction • A commitment to the safe and caring environment for children • Be present, ready to work and on time for all scheduled hours • Meet and comply with all OPCY requirements
