Principal, Assistant Principal, Designated Administrator, and Area Associate Superintendent
Knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment required for working with identified gifted students, knowledge of student growth and development; knowledge of Prince William County Public Schools curriculum and of the curriculum of the Gifted Education Program, ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs; ability to plan and implement lessons using the Instructional Process and based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of identified students; ability to utilize multi-media and computer technology, as appropriate; understanding of school division mission, goals, and organization, ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with administrators, peers, students, and parents; skill in oral and written communication; excellent human relations skills.
Possession of a Collegiate Professional, Post Graduate Professional, or appropriate vocational license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Must be endorsed in gifted education in the Commonwealth of Virginia or must complete the requirements for the gifted education endorsement within three years of the date of employment. Must be eligible for Virginia Teacher Certification Program or licensure.
Under the general supervision of a principal and or other designated administrator, plans and implements an instructional program and provides services for students identified for gifted services in grades K-12. Assesses and evaluates student aptitude and achievement and modifies curriculum and instruction as required. Carries out a variety of student monitoring and reporting activities including the management of student behavior. Performs related duties as assigned.
Budget Responsibilities: Limited Employees Supervised: Temporary employees, if assigned Number of Schools/Departments: One for site-based elementary teachers, and for middle school and high school teachers serving one school – More than one school for teachers in the itinerant program for students in kindergarten through grade three, for teachers in the elementary center program for students in grades four and five who serve more than one school, and for middle and high school teachers who serve more than one school. Number of students: As determined by Prince William County student ratios for the Gifted Education Program
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: NOTHING IN THIS SPECIFICATION SHALL BE CONSTRUED AS IN CONFLICT WITH ANY PROVISION OF THE TEACHER PERFORMANCE EVAULUATION PROGRAM, ITS STANDARDS, GUIDELINES, OR PERFORMANCE INDICATORS. 1. The duties and responsibilities of a gifted education resource teacher shall include the responsibilities of teachers as listed in Prince William County Public Schools Regulation 561.01-1, Certificated Personnel Responsibilities and Duties 2. The teacher shall have knowledge of and adhere to federal, state, and local laws and regulations governing the education of identified gifted students. These regulations include the Regulations Governing Educational Services for Gifted Students (8 VAC 20-40-10 through 8 VAC 20-40-70) In addition, the duties of each Gifted Education Resource Teacher shall include but not be limited to the following: 1. Work collaboratively with all stake holders in providing a world-class education 2. Coordinating the gifted education identification process including communicating information about the identification process, coordinating the completion of accurate student profiles within timeline requirements, administering standardized tests if required for the process, preparing cases for committee review, and following identification guidelines established in the Regulations Governing Educational Services for Gifted Students and the approved Prince William County Gifted Education Plan. 3. Assessing student abilities related to educational goals, objectives, and outcomes and preparing Differentiated Services Plans to meet those goals, objectives, and outcomes. 4. Planning appropriate instructional and/or learning strategies and activities, including determination of appropriate principles of learning, organizational structures, and type, level, and complexity of materials. 5. Implementing an instructional program that provides appropriate learning experiences for each identified student including the use of strategies to generate critical and creative thinking and to support metacognition. 6. Delivering differentiated instruction in adherence to the Prince William County Gifted Education Program Curriculum Documents. 7. Utilizing a variety of instructional materials and available multi-media and computer technology to enhance learning. 8. Continually communicating with students on instructional expectations and keeping them informed of their progress. 9. Assuming responsibility for continually assessing and documenting student achievement including the completion of Annual Differentiated Services Plans and Semester Student Progress Reports. 10. Managing the behavior of learners in instructional setting to ensure environment is conducive to the learning process, and assisting and participating in management of student behavior. 11. Collecting data, completing required reports, and attending regularly scheduled staff and gifted education program meetings. 12. Cooperating with and participating in the planning and the evaluation of the Gifted Education Program, including the administration of the Tri-Annual survey and the collection of required data. 13. Working with classroom teachers, librarians, and other instructional personnel, including Special Education and ESOL teachers, to support instruction. 14. Coordinating instructional activities and collaborating with other professional staff, both school and non-school based, as required, to maximize learning opportunities. 15. Participating in the professional development program of the schools and school system. 16. Fostering partnerships and ensuring continuous communication with parents, written and oral, to keep them informed of student progress. 17. Enforcing policies and regulations as established by the Prince William County School Board and staff in accordance with program guidelines. 18. Supervising pupil activities in buildings and on grounds before, during, and after school hours and being responsible for the conduct and safety of students in the classroom and on school grounds. 19. Assigning work to and supervising instructional assistants, parent, and student volunteers. 20. Demonstrating prompt and accurate written communications and reports. 21. Adhering to school division and school disciplinary procedures. 22. Following the ethics of the profession. 23. Complete other duties as assigned.
