Creighton University’s Pipeline to Success – Health Careers Opportunity Program (HCOP) is a federally funded grant that provides students from economically or educationally disadvantaged backgrounds an opportunity to develop the skills needed to successfully compete for, enter, and graduate from health professional school.
HCOP’s 6-week Structured Summer Program will run Monday through Friday from June 29 until August 7, 2020. Students will attend classes with instructors Monday through Thursday, and Friday will be reserved for non-instructional activities.
Creighton University’s Pipeline to Success – Health Careers Opportunity Program (HCOP) is looking for a committed part-time summer instructor to teach an academic enrichment course in high school academic success during our 6-week structured summer program on Creighton University’s campus. Instructors will be responsible for providing 1 hour and 25 minutes of instructional time per day, Monday through Thursday for the duration of the 6-week program.
Successful candidates will be responsible for preparing and implementing a full educational teaching plan to provide high school students with the fundamentals of academic success such as different types of motivation, study habits/skills (taking high-quality notes, memorization techniques, test-taking strategies, benefits of visual aids, reading techniques), and learning styles, including a pre- and post-assessment. The goal of the course is enriching and building an educational foundation for their future coursework in the health sciences. It will be important to provide knowledge and instruction to students while also helping them develop their professional skills.
The ideal candidate will have a deep knowledge of varying tools for academic success and be passionate for the job, with an ability to reach out to students and create a relationship of mutual trust. They will know how to organize a class and have experience teaching the subject matter.
