JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for the daily planning, management, and supervision of the classroom and children. Can be assisted in the classroom by a teacher when student/teacher ratios must be met. Is responsible for ensuring that all parents, children, and classroom staff concerns are appropriately addressed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Ensures that appearance, cleanliness and safe environment of classroom are appropriately maintained. Diligently and regularly providing cleaning and sanitization of tables/chairs, feeding/diapering areas, walls and other areas not cleaned by outside cleaning crew.
• Completes all academy and classroom paperwork: for example, daily notes, student accident reports, attendance reports.
• Utilizes Academy Link to accurately log the day’s activities for each child, making proper adjustments to menus and other items that speak specifically to each individual child before sending to parents.
• Effectively coaches and counsels teacher within the classroom on the policies, procedures and day to day operations of the classroom in an effort to build his/her skill set and ability to also lead a classroom. Successfully facilitates training so that operations run smoothly with or without the presence of the regular lead teacher.
• Works to build the Kiddie Academy brand/culture by exhibiting the highest level of positive professionalism with every action and communication, utilizing appropriate language and tone. Adheres to the dress code, being an example of proper protocol to all co-workers, families and visitors.
• Participates in activities that promote the use of customer and team surveys. Provide reminders and encouragement to families to participate in Listen360 opportunities and extending appreciation to those who do so.
• Attends and participates in team meetings, academy events, and parent meetings, as requested.
• Assists and supervises children during all activities.
• Counsels children when social, academic, or adjustment problems arise.
• Accepts and works with outside consultants from various programs designed to enhance the early childhood experience for the students. Those consultants may include Kiddie Academy corporate personnel or case workers contracted with parents to intercede and support the growth and development of a child in our care.
• Prepares and implements classroom lesson plans, program, and schedule, ensuring multiple back-up plans exist for each day’s scheduled lessons keeping children constantly engaged.
• Develops, plans, and prepares instructional aids / materials for classroom activities.
• Assists children with meal times and clean-up, facilitating as much self-serving as possible for all children in the classroom.
• Ensures that all classroom and outdoor equipment are in good working condition and are used and maintained properly. In the classroom, this includes proper upkeep and an “inviting” appearance of cleanliness, safety and sanitary surroundings. Needed repairs or malfunctions should be reported to leadership immediately.
• Physically arranges the classroom into well-defined interest areas, minimizing opportunities for accidents or unsafe conditions.
• Directs activities of other staff in the classroom to ensure that the classroom functions in an orderly manner.
• Communicates appropriate information to parents; maintains developmental profiles for children. Provides personal introductions to new families and of new team members, ensuring acknowledgement of the child and parent at drop off and pick up.
• Schedules and conducts parent and teacher conferences throughout the year.
• Maintains family information board and other classroom bulletin boards, as well as monthly newsletters.
• Ensures that classroom medication schedule is followed.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Accepts temporary work assignments in the event regularly scheduled personnel is not available: for example, may answer telephones at front desk, or may assist supervisor with bookkeeping tasks or may step into ratios in another classroom.
• Assists with planning and implementing academy-wide events.
• Meets with prospective families; communicates appropriately with potential new customers; including participating in tours explaining classrooms procedures and overview and follow-up to tours.
• Assists in evaluating personnel within the classroom based upon guidance and direction provided.
• Prepares classroom portion of monthly newsletter.
• Completes 16 professional development hours every calendar year.
• Performs other similar or related duties as necessary.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

• Must meet state requirements for position.
• Must possess a minimum of a CDA certification or associates in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Child Psychology or a similar field and two years’ experience working in a child care center.
• Must be able to lift and carry no less than a 40 pound child on a consistent basis throughout the workday to at least waist high but often higher.
• Must be able to quickly and safely evacuate groups of children in an emergency or preparation drill setting, with or without notice.
• Must be able to supervise and educate a group of children alone as mandated within state ratio requirements ensuring their complete safety.
• Must successfully pass a criminal background and drug screen.
