Middle School Team Lead Teacher – Greenspring Montessori School – Lutherville-Timonium, MD

Greenspring Montessori School is seeking a Middle School (Adolescent Community) Teacher Team Leader (Director) to lead our motivated and collaborative teaching team.

Adults and students in the Adolescent Community function in a community of learners in an atmosphere of mutual respect and support. The program provides a consistent, yet flexible, structure; high expectations for work and conduct; a system of accountability; opportunities for student-led learning; and a focus on ethical thinking and problem-solving. The curriculum is a project- and problem-based, writing-intensive program that promotes independence, self-direction, metacognition, and critical thinking. At its core, the collective elements of the program are a means to build community, discover passion, deepen curiosity, and provide experiences for each adolescent to engage deeply and meaningfully in self-discovery.

Greenspring Montessori School has been offering a Montessori education to students for over 50 years. Nestled on a 7-acre property that was originally a dairy farm, students ages 18 months through grade 8 thrive in our newly renovated buildings, state of the art Montessori classrooms, and rich outdoor learning environments.

Basic Responsibilities:

• Oversee and coordinate elements of an interdisciplinary middle school curriculum, including the student-run business and health & wellness

• Oversee a dynamic team of middle school teachers to enrich and support their practice and work with adolescents

• Communicate regularly with administration and support offices (advancement and counseling/learning services) to support the needs of the middle school program

• Communicate regularly with student families about the program and individual student needs

• Communicate with and form partnerships with local organizations to enrich curriculum and student experience

• Manage the program budget and communicate with the business office

• Coordinate with Elementary school team to facilitate a strong bridge between program

• Coordinate and lead weekly middle school team meetings to collaboratively reflect on practice, evaluate curriculum, support one-another, and problem-solve

Characteristics/Skills:

• Understanding of social-emotional needs of adolescents

• Desire to work with and lead a team of teachers to best serve the needs of adolescents

• Clear and honest communication

• Commitment to student-centered education

• Understanding of record-keeping and formative feedback as data to make decisions

• Experience with or desire to explore working with students on authentic community projects (such as running a small business)

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:

• BA/BS degree required

• Montessori Adolescent Teaching Credential (from an AMI, AMS, or MACTE-accredited program) required

• Middle school teaching experience

• Experience leading/supervising others

Position Details:

This is a 10-month, full-time position. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Salary is commensurate with experience. Benefits include health, dental, paid sick days and holidays, and tuition remission for qualified dependents.

Authorization to work in the United States is a pre-condition of employment at Greenspring Montessori School.
