Peer Recovery Coach – POOL/As Needed – RI International – Durham, NC

Essential Job Functions

• Provides a welcoming environment for new participants using the Recovery Coaching process.
• Connects with new participants to obtain identifying and referral information, strengths, and solutions sought.
• In a facility-based program, assists in completing guest registration to the Center including:
  • Reviewing and securing guest and visitor personal items in detail.
  • Assisting guests with shower and clean up as needed using proper infection control procedures.
  • Orienting new guests to the Center including an introduction to staff; tour of the facility; explanation of guest rights and grievances, Center expectations and program schedule.
  • Assures guests have necessary items for personal hygiene and comfort.
• Provides peer support to engage participants in a recovery partnership based on the principles of mutuality and “being with, not fixing.”
• Models hope, personal responsibility, and self-advocacy by sharing his or her personal recovery story, how recovery goals can be respectfully met and how a belief in self is maintained.
• Assists participants in identifying their hopes and dreams and the solutions they are seeking by using the Recovery Coaching process to develop and record an individualized Recovery and Wellness plan.
• Teaches recovery and life skills using recovery tools (e.g. WRAP, WELL, etc.) individually and/or in a class setting.
• Cultivates connections in the person’s life (self, others, the environment and to meaning and purpose).
• Assists in developing natural supports and community living by partnering with each participant to strengthen valued roles (friend, spouse, employee, student, etc.) so a greater sense of identity is established.
• Contacts and involves participant’s support system
• Works with the person and others to arrange continuing services as needed.
• In a facility-based program, partners with each guest to maintain a safe environment by performing tasks including, but not limited to:
  • Participate as a team member to create an attractive environment (e.g. contribute to the care of the physical appearance of the facility).
  • Safety checks each shift, removing any hazardous objects and recording findings as designated.
  • Wellness checks with guests with “risk-sharing” needs, completing required documentation
  • Implement contraband policy.
• In a facility-based program, assists with food preparation and serving.
• In partnership with team, provides for any special needs of guests.
• Documents relevant and required information and services provided in the identified service record (electronic or otherwise) assuring continuity of care as a tool for communication with other team members.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Effective communication skills.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Successfully complete RI Peer Employment Training
• Lived experience as a current or past recipient of mental health services.
• Completion of Therapeutic Options.

Driving Requirements:

• If driving is required for this position, must meet all requirements outlined in RI International driving policy.
• If not qualified to drive per driving policy, a Non-Driver Attestation form must be signed.

A Direct Service Competency Checklist must be completed as part of the new hire onboarding process.

Physical Demands:

May include work close to the eyes and substantial motions of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers. Frequent sitting, standing, walking, handling, finger dexterity; eye-hand-foot coordination, use of corrected vision; color vision; use of auditory senses. May be required to lift up to twenty (20) pounds.

Work Environment

May work in an office environment or behavioral health facility. May have contact with individuals who are agitated and/or confused. Work may include travel throughout the geographic region.
