DESCRIPTION OF WORK
Nido: Coworking & Childcare, a 501c3 nonprofit in the heart of Durham, North Carolina, is dedicated to providing a work-life balance for families of young children. Nido’s vision is a world where parents can be wholly accepted for who they are, where every child receives quality care, and where we build community and create opportunity—together.
We blend coworking and childcare to form a supportive, inclusive space. Our preschool is an intentionally small program serving ages 6 months to 6 years. We maintain optimal teacher:child ratios to ensure a truly personalized program for every child. We offer a half-day program during the school year and summer. Our goal is to ease the family’s transition to childcare by creating an extension of the home environment.
The Toddler House Lead Preschool Teacher will work 5 days a week (Monday – Friday) to manage the Toddler House at Nido, reporting directly to Site Manager and/or Executive Director. This is a full-time, exempt position. The breakdown of the position’s responsibilities is as follows:
Supervise all students in Toddler House class in the Montessori method and philosophy, in all academic and specialty areas of study.
Create and implement the morning and afternoon session curriculum and schedule.
Plan, prepare, and maintain Montessori materials, thematic units, library books, etc.
Manage and care for the classroom true to the Montessori philosophy, paying particular attention to the needs of students and updating curriculum as necessary.
Facilitate a nurturing environment for children and adults by fostering our core values: respect, parent-child bond, purpose, environment, community, and social change.
Communicate daily (online and in person) with parents about their children’s school lives, and educate parents in Montessori philosophy.
Maintain ongoing communication with team members, including the Toddler House assistant/co-teacher and other Nido teachers.
Serve as the liaison for the classroom to the Board to ensure that Nido’s policies (including safety, school licensing requirements, and staffing minimums) are adhered to.
Assist in the planning and maintenance of the classrooms, materials and playground to ensure they are clean, safe and maintained.
Organize planning time for changing out classroom materials, cleaning and reorganizing works.
Attend biweekly staff meetings, as well as parent-teacher conferences, school admissions events, and classroom socials, which may occur outside of the regular classroom schedule.
Diploma from the Association Montessori International with a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent such as pre-primary credential, primary diploma, or provisional certificate from the American Montessori Society).
At least 1,040 hours experience as an assistant teacher, aide, or student intern, preferably in a Montessori primary classroom
CPR/First Aid certification.
Have the physical capacity to work with preschool/kindergarten aged children (lift up to 30 pounds).
Continued professional development (minimum 15 hours per school year).
Salary range is $28,000-$31,000, depending on experience. Benefits include paid holidays and time off. To apply, please send a cover letter, resume, and three references to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Upon selection, a background check and drug screening must be passed prior to beginning employment.
